Welsh place names are a treasure trove of information about the physical, social, and cultural heritage of Wales. From the names of the highest mountains and largest cities to the smallest fields and streams, Welsh place names are a window into how past societies perceived their environments. Unfortunately, however, Welsh place names are being lost because of social, economic, and demographic changes. Mapio Cymru is building an open access Welsh language map of Wales, so that not only are Welsh place names recorded for the future, but that they are accessible to all. By contributing your knowledge of Welsh place names, you can help populate this map and ensure that these names are not lost.
